The scent of beer and the sound of bass guitars riffing through a crowd of screaming fans. That’s what Utahns can expect at the annual Grid City Music Fest.
Going on four years now, South Salt Lake City is hosting Grid City Music Fest Aug. 22 through Aug. 24, “with the goal of bringing more summer activity to South Salt Lake’s Creative Industries Zone,” Riley Smith said.
Drew Reynolds, owner of Grid City Beer Works, coordinated the festival along with Derrek Wright, founder of Tiny Porch Music. Both have been a part of the process since the beginning, working to create a space at The Commonwealth Room and several other venues for all South Salt Lake neighbors and music lovers to have a good time. It poses an opportunity for Utahns of the Greater Salt Lake area to explore the vast arts scene South Salt Lake has.
“The response has been incredible, and we are so excited to show people how great the local music scene is,” Smith said.
2025 is the largest lineup they’ve had, past years have featured no more than about 50 bands playing. This year, there will be 81, all locally established. The festival has been months in the making, with a lineup consisting of bands The Glitter Bombs, Jimi Dead, LionFish, Cher Khan, Venus Death Trap and several others. The venues include various 21-plus options and all-ages areas which include Pat’s BBQ, Contento Cafe, Bowers Residences, Chappell Brewing, Egg Break and Bjorn’s Brew. Friday will host a kick-off party including a group bike ride, live music and other nighttime 21-plus attractions to start off the weekend right.
“Organizing sound crews and running multiple stages isn’t easy, but once everyone’s on board, the festival runs smoothly and the energy is unmatched,” Smith said.
She added that this year they’ve added more all-age stages to create a family-friendly atmosphere at Grid City Music Fest. Saturday will have five stages while Sunday has four. Plus, the breweries have adopted a similar approach to their audiences as they did for the recent Pie n’ Beer day excursions. Chappel Brewing acquired a temporary license so that families can enter with young children.
Grid City Music Fest is free admission and accessible, with a free Fun Bus for transportation, connecting each stage and brewery. Patrons can also use TRAX to get to the main event at The Commonwealth Room at the Central Pointe Station.
