Audrey Hobert. You may know her from Gracie Abrams’s “Good Luck Charlie” (the girl the bartender thought was dead), but Hobert is her own sensation.
Growing up in LA, she never dreamed of becoming a popstar; instead, dancing was her outlet. She never considered herself a writer until she attended NYU, where she studied screenwriting. With a love and knowledge of film, she directed Abrams’s music videos for “I Love You, I’m Sorry,” and “Risk.” Hobert discovered she wanted to songwrite in addition to screenwriting when one night she and Abrams unexpectedly wrote a song together. Some of the songs Hobert is credited for writing are “I Love You, I’m Sorry,” and “I Knew It, I Know You.” She continued to songwrite for herself, “I don’t feel like I can just stop doing this thing,” Hobert said.
It’s safe to say that Hobert has established herself as a creative by working on these projects, but she is ready to release her own music. On May 9, Hobert released her debut single, “Sue Me,” and truly displayed her relatability and humor through lyricism, “Just me or does he look amazing when he’s all in his Amazon basics.” She is so authentically herself, even in the way she promotes her music. The “Sue Me” promotion includes videos of her dancing unchoreographed to the song or a TikTok video of her walking around her apartment with a tripod as the song plays in the background.
She posted recently to her Substack page, addressing her fans quite literally in a post titled, “To my fans,” she said, “I never wanted to be a singer. So tell me why I’m bout to be a singer? Tell me why I just slid effortlessly into being a singer?” Hobert’s come-up is honest and authentic and that’s why people are drawn to her. She has many talents, but fell into songwriting in a very organic way.
She’s begun teasing another single posting on TikTok and Instagram, posting a video of her moving about her apartment to the sound of her new track. In this tease, she posts the witty lyrics saying, “So I hit the joint and now I’m feeling better, and I strip down south because I’m the naked neighbor.”
Her personal brand is just so on point, it’s relatable, relaxed and COOL. Her natural songwriting abilities and creative vision in all aspects is shaping her out to be a rising star. Hobert is someone to look out for and a breath of fresh air in the world of pop music
