Hello everyone! I hope your Valentine’s Day was memorable and I hope your ready for this weeks Geek Wish-List. Last week I shared my opinion that what the geek community needs is a new D&D movie.  Especially with the community being as large as it is, now is the perfect time to invest in a new take on the D&D movie concept.

Some of you may be aware of the fact that in the past there was a series of D&D movies made in 2000. All that I have to say about the films is that they weren’t exactly known for its quality portrayal of Dungeons & Dragons. However, with the jump in film making technology and techniques I don’t think that it’s too far of a stretch to consider the possibility for a new ‘quality’ D&D movie, maybe before 2020 if we’re lucky.

It’s my honest opinion that a movie created to show a cinematic version of what a D&D campaign feels like would make for a fantastic movie blockbuster. As I’m sure some, if not most of you ,have experienced by now is that there is a special kind of joy that comes from partaking in a D&D campaign with a bunch of your friends. The thrill of going to new and exotic worlds with your friends backing you up, or in some cases plotting your downfall, is truly a unique experience that many find irreplaceable. If Hollywood can follow through on such a movie I know that the geek community would welcome it with open and loving arms.

My top three wishes for this D&D film would be for the movie to include my 3 C’s. Creatures Galore, Critical rolls, and Clashes with the Dungeon Master. With the sheer amount of monsters in the D&D universe I would need the movie to showcase as many original D&D monsters as possible. My biggest wish for this movie would be for it to include the infamous Dice Rolls. There is no way that any D&D movie could succeed in the box office without having at least something in relation to D&D’s critical saves. Even people who don’t play D&D know about the moment where players put their character on the line and pray for the coveted natural 20.  Speaking of D&D related moments, the bane of all D&D campaigns is when someone in your group decides to piss of the DM. As all players are aware when you sign up for a D&D campaign you are putting your metaphorical life in the hands of the all powerful DM. I’m hoping that the studio that decides to take on the challenge of making a D&D movie include some moment that depicts the absolute terror that a player feels when they know that they have angered the DM and can sense the untold horrors that await them as penance.
