Another day, another new music announcement and rollout from one of the most prolific and quality artists in hip hop. During the week of August 19th, Long Beach rapper and recent Twilight Concert Series performer Vince Staples announced his latest project called The Vince Staples Show.

The announcement of The Vince Staples Show definitely did not follow a normal rollout pattern similar to what we are accustomed to these days. Earlier in the week, Staples cryptically tweeted a new website and posted a one minute video on Instagram that contained the words “Coming Soon” followed by a short story trailer. 

Not much else was said about the project until a few days later when he tweeted this.

So what exactly is it? Is it a literal TV show? My initial thought was why would a famous rapper be so vague about his new project and leave fans wondering? But to my delight, Vince gave us our first taste of the “TV show” on August 22nd. 

First taste of the show

In the early morning of the 22nd, Staples tweeted about the release the first episode of The Vince Staples Show on YouTube, as well as an accompanying single called “So What?” which is featured prominently in the episode. 

What’s it all about?

The episode starts out with Vince laying in bed reading a conspiracy magazine. Later in the episode, we see him visiting a barbershop to get a fresh cut. However, there’s a bit of a twist near the end of the episode that I didn’t see coming. Check it out for yourself and see what you think of The Vince Staples Show.
