It is crazy to think that Young Thug has been in the rap game for almost a decade at this point. I remember hearing my first Thug track in early 2011 like it was just yesterday. I had no clue that he would grow into what he is today. Coming from humble beginnings in the slums of Atlanta, he’s become a super influential artist for the latest generation.

New album

It feels like a holiday when we get a firm release date from Thugger and he sticks to it. On August 10th, he posted the cover art and release date of August 16th on his social media accounts. Surprisingly he actually stuck to that date and released the album on his 28th birthday.

Thug’s latest project, originally titled #GØŁDMØÜFDÖG and then later changed to So Much Fun, was announced as “coming soon” in May 2019 and coincided with the release of his incredibly dope single “The London” featuring Travis Scott and J. Cole. This new project is the proper follow up to 2017’s Beautiful Thugger Girls, which is an amazing album in its own right.

Album artwork

The cover art for the project was revealed on August 10th and it is absolutely beautiful, meeting the bar that Thug has set with his previous art. The cover features a large Young Thug face made out of a bunch of smaller Young Thugs. The actual Thugger is seen wearing a white shirt on the right side of the image mowing So Much Fun into the lawn. Needless to say, there’s a lot going on here and I really enjoy it.

Building hype

The most surprising and exciting thing about this whole album rollout thing for Thug this time around is the amount of hype surrounding him. In the last few years he has featured on multiple chart-topping and top 10 songs including Camila Cabello’s “Havana”, Childish Gambino’s “This Is America”, Post Malone’s latest single “Goodbyes” and a standout remix of Lil Nas X’s current (at the time of writing) #1 single “Old Town Road”.

With all of this hype surrounding him, let’s hope that this is finally the time for Young Thug to take advantage and elevate his career in the commercial sense. He’s already done so much influence-wise so it is time for him to make the leap into the mainstream eye.
