On January 9th, the Hip Hop Drip crew reassembled after a relaxing winter break to talk about the latest in the genre. Don’t worry, they didn’t forget about the prosperous year that was 2019. There was plenty of discussion about their favorite releases of 2019 in this jam-packed episode of Drip Boys. Read on for more insight into topics covered in the episode and then listen via the link at the bottom. Drip Boys episode 1 is here!

Looking back on last year, we mutually agreed that the top 5 hip hop albums of 2019 had to be given to Tyler the Creator’s IGOR, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib with Bandana, Revenge of the Dreamers III by Dreamville, CrasH Talk by ScHoolboy Q, and Young Thug’s So Much Fun

2020 looks promising though as we are already getting single releases from Uzi with “Futsal Shuffle 2020” and Future and Drake releasing “Life is Good”. However, we have yet to hear from more big names that haven’t released anything in the past 2-3 years. We are still awaiting music from Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti, Frank Ocean, Miguel, and Rihanna among many others. Luckily, there is confirmation from Westside Gunn that a Madlib collab project is in the works. We’re also getting a posthumous album titled Circles from the late Mac Miller.

Most of the boys agreed that rap music is being pumped out every two years, so everyone is hyped for something good in 2020. We are hoping for the best new music for this year. Not only are the Drip Boys excited about it but Max is really hoping that Frank Ocean will drop a new album, similar to Roberto and his Carti anticipation. As more music drops, we will be there to share our points and opinions as well as hear from you.

As in previous episodes, the Drip Boys can’t help but crack jokes and talk about current memes. They eventually talked about the ever-present WWIII and being drafted memes. Max pulled out some tweets from the fake USA military Twitter account and started making jokes about it.

Also in the episode, Adam brings the hot takes and more insight on his favorite music of last year. He talks about IDK’s 2019 album Is He Real? and tells everyone to watch for him in 2020. He also agrees that Bandana is the album of the year and Future and Drake’s new single is a banger. Later in the episode, Tyki brings up what songs he thinks DJs should leave in the past decade. Roberto throws out there that it might just have to be Drake. What’s your hot take? Let us know in the comments what music you wanna leave in the 2010s decade.

There’s also movie discussion as Adam Sandler bring the entire team together over his new movie “Uncut Gems”. The high stakes movie takes you through twists and turns as Adam Sandler’s character shows us how he gets his. Unanimously recommended by the guys from the Hip Hop Drip, you’ll definitely want to catch this brand new flick.
